Imagine waking up every morning greeted by the gentle rays of the sun filtering through the windows, while the tranquillity and serenity of the small village of Viddalba envelops your every awakening. This is not just a house, but an invitation to live in harmony with nature, in the beautiful setting of Gallura, where history and traditions blend with the breathtaking landscape. My journey to this enchanting corner of Sardinia began when I stepped into the living room of a comfortable, bright flat in Viddalba. Here, the northern exposure ensures soft but constant light for much of the day, ideal for those who like to enjoy the outdoors without the direct assault of the summer sun. The garden, a true natural sanctuary, is the ideal place for my morning reflections and evenings in the company of friends and family, under the starry Gallura sky.Upon entering the house, the warm and welcoming atmosphere of the living room with open kitchen immediately made me feel at ease. This space, the beating heart of the house, will witness countless family evenings, tried-and-tested recipes and shared laughter. The master bedroom, a haven of peace and privacy, is designed to host dreams and projects, reflecting the light and energy that only a place like Viddalba can offer. In addition to its interior features, it is the context in which it is located that makes this flat such a special place.Immersed in the unique landscapes of Gallura, Viddalba stands as the custodian of thousands of years of history. This village, with its roots deeply rooted in Sardinian history, offers not only a natural setting of rare beauty, but also a dive into local culture and traditions. From the natural thermal baths, famous for their therapeutic properties, to the archaeological finds that tell of ancient civilisations, Viddalba is a hidden treasure just waiting to be explored. And then there are its surroundings: pristine beaches, hiking trails winding between granite rocks and Mediterranean maquis, and vineyards where the Vermentino di Gallura wine, the island's oenological jewel, is produced. Living here means being part of a living picture every day, where nature, history and food and wine come together in a unique and unforgettable experience.Buying this house in Viddalba is not simply a real estate investment; it is choosing to embrace a lifestyle that values tranquillity, beauty and authenticity. It is the promise of an existence enriched by nature, culture and the hospitality of a community that still retains the warmth and humanity of times gone by.If you are looking for a refuge where you can rediscover the pleasure of small things, where time seems to slow down to give you moments of pure happiness, then this house in Viddalba could be the next chapter in your story. A story just waiting to be lived.

I have just landed in Sardinia, and what at first seemed like a misunderstanding - the car I had booked was not available - turned into a wonderful opportunity, and so at our meeting on the beach in the Gulf of Asinara I turn up in a splendid white convertible car.Above us the clear sky, the scent of saltiness, the spring sun and the verdant landscape of this unusually rainy spring all around us as we drive towards Viddalba.Formerly known as Villa alba (white village), built on the edge of the fertile Coghinas plain, it lies on the soft green hills of Gallura.A stroll through the streets of the village allows us to admire the local handicrafts, in particular the processing of textiles. In the stalls, the colours and scents of the many agricultural products produced here stand out. Sardinia is the ideal place to practise sports, sailing, windsurfing and kitesurfing in the Gulf of Asinara, trekking and horse-riding among the fascinating rural roads in the stazzi on the heights bordering the territory to the east and the paths that cross deep red rocks and take us to the peaks also thanks to the windy 'vie chiodate' .This place is so enchanting that we are forgetting why we met here, the attic apartment on the third and last floor of this block of flats. The flat is designed as an open space, a large white-grey living area with an open kitchen area overlooking the first of the two south-facing terraces. The relaxation area overlooks the other north-facing terrace, which is also bathtub-shaped and therefore covered from prying eyes. Both terraces have two inlets that could become, with sliding structures, convenient outdoor storage rooms, where it is also possible to house the motor for the air-conditioning system for which the flat is already prepared. Two large rooms with sloping roofs have been fitted out as beds, which can comfortably accommodate four, while the windowed bathroom with a large shower completes the floor. The surprises don't end there, a few steps away from the house we visit the Casteldoria thermal baths: its salty-bromine-iodine waters with curative properties gush out at over 70 degrees. But the special feature of this moment is an ancient tradition that has been revived, the Gallurese wedding with poetry competitions, horse parades, singing and dancing.I knew that this visit would trigger in you, too, the desire to have a corner of paradise in this fascinating region where you can retreat to enjoy the sun, sea and tradition, and having a proposal already fully furnished...well, you only have to worry about fixing the date of the deed.
My discovery of this charming flat in Viddalba was one of those surprises that life has in store when you least expect it. I was in town for a photography project dedicated to the hidden beauty of Italian villages. It was during an evening stroll, as the last of the sunshine caressed the ancient stones of the village, that I came across this small, recently built apartment building. On the first floor, through an elegantly finished door, our flat opens up. The spacious living room, with its open kitchen and south-facing balcony, offers a view that is a hymn to Gallura, with its landscapes that fade into shades of green and blue, inviting you to take a break and enjoy the moment. The bedrooms, also facing south, are bathed in warm, reassuring light. The master bedroom, is a cosy and serene refuge, where every detail seems to whisper 'welcome home'. The single room, versatile and bright, is perfect both as a guest room and as a study, where one can be inspired by the quietness of the place. There are the two full bathrooms, the first anticipated by an ante-bathroom and windowed with a northern exposure, offering cool privacy, and the other, without a window, carefully designed to maximise comfort and functionality. But Viddalba is much more than just a backdrop for this residence. This village, set in the unique landscapes of Gallura, is a treasure trove of stories, traditions and natural beauty. With its natural thermal baths, it is a destination for those seeking wellness and relaxation in the heart of Sardinia. Its lands are dotted with archaeological remains that tell millennia of history, from nuraghi to the tombs of the giants, offering a journey through time to anyone who cares to listen. A few minutes' drive away, we find various beaches where the Sardinian sea shows all its splendour, with crystal-clear waters and fine sandy beaches. No less fascinating are the hiking trails that wind through the hills, where the Mediterranean scrub opens up to amazing views. My visit left me with the certainty that, for someone, this will not just be a home, but a corner of the world where they can find inspiration, peace and a sense of belonging. And those who choose to make this place their home will have found a treasure that goes beyond the value of the property: they will have found a piece of paradise on earth.

About the Area
Sardinia captivates with its wild hinterland, out-of-this-world beaches and endearing eccentricities. Here coastal drives thrill, prehistory puzzles and four million sheep rule the roads.
Sardinia has some of the dreamiest beaches you'll find without stepping off European shores. Yes, the sand really is that white, and the sea the bluest blue. Imagine dropping anchor in Costa Smeralda's scalloped bays, where celebrities and supermodels frolic in emerald waters; playing castaway on the Golfo di Orosei's coves, where sheer cliffs ensure seclusion; or sailing to La Maddalena's cluster of granite islands. Whether you're walking barefoot across the dunes on the wave-lashed Costa Verde or lounging on the Costa del Sud's silky smooth bays, unroll your beach towel and you'll never want to leave.
Whether you go slow or fast, choose coast or country, Sardinia is one of Europe's last great island adventures. Hike through the lush, silent interior to the twilight of Tiscali's nuraghic ruins. Walk the vertiginous coastal path to the crescent-shaped bay of Cala Luna, where climbers spider up the limestone cliffs. Or ramble through holm oak forests to the mighty boulder-strewn canyon of Gola Su Gorropu. The sea's allure is irresistible to windsurfers on the north coast, while divers wax lyrical about shipwrecks off Cagliari's coast, the underwater Nereo Cave and Nora's submerged Roman ruins.
As DH Lawrence so succinctly put it: 'Sardinia is different'. Indeed, where else but here can you go from near-alpine forests to snow-white beaches, or find wildlife oddities such as the blue-eyed albino donkeys on the Isola dell'Asinara and the wild horses that shyly roam Giara di Gesturi. The island is also a culinary one-off, with distinct takes on pasta, bread and dolci, its own wines (Vermentino whites, Cannonau reds) and cheeses including maggoty casu marzu pecorino, stashed away in barns in the mountainous interior. In every way we can think of Sardinia is different, and all the more loveable for it.
Sardinia has been polished like a pebble by the waves of its history and heritage. The island is scattered with 7000 nuraghi, Bronze Age towers and settlements, tombe dei giganti ('giant's grave' tombs) and domus de janas ('fairy house' tombs). Down every country lane and in every 10-man, 100-sheep hamlet, these remnants of prehistory are waiting to be pieced together like the most puzzling of jigsaw puzzles. Sardinia is also an island of fabulously eccentric festivals, from Barbagia's carnival parade of ghoulish mamuthones, said to banish winter demons, to the death-defying S'Ardia horse race in Sedilo.
