Al existir otras localidades con el mismo nombre recibió, a principios del siglo XX, el apéndice de Cid, en referencia a la Sierra del Cid que se levanta en sus inmediaciones y que recuerda las hazañas de Rodrigo Daz de Vivar en la provincia de Alicante.
