You'll also be within walking distance of iconic spots like the Palau de la Música, Barcelona Cathedral, Santa Caterina Market, and the popular Portal de l'Àngel shopping area. About the neighbourhood The Gothic Quarter is the historic center of the old city of Barcelona. The neighborhood encompasses the oldest parts of the city and includes the remains of the Roman city wall and several notable medieval monuments. It retains a labyrinthine street layout, with many narrow streets leading to squares. Some of the best points of interest or monuments in the Gothic Quarter include La Plaça Reial, La Catedral de Barcelona, La Basílica de Santa María del Pi, Plaza de Sant Jaume, and Port Vell.
