NEIGHBORHOOD Our “Residence Case Nuove” apartment is located in the quiet and modern area of San Lorenzo a Greve, on an internal street, away from traffic and prying eyes. San Lorenzo a Greve, also known as Ponte a Greve, is a predominantly residential historic district in the 4th district of Florence and takes its name from the homonymous church in the area. The ancient bridge over the Greve river — much more than Ponte Vecchio — which, among subsequent reconstructions, dates back to the Romans, connects the two banks of what for millennia was the backbone of the village: the Via Pisana, a route of pre-Etruscan origin, which has always been the way to the sea. So around the bridge, a village was formed to welcome pilgrims, with the 12th century church of San Lorenzo and a hospital, a tower, and typical terraced houses. In fact, it seems that the church of San Lorenzo was strategically placed adjacent to the ancient bridge to defend the pass on the Greve. Today, the area of San Lorenzo in Greve is affected by a large residential building development as well as a large shopping center that is also very popular with the population of other Florentine neighborhoods. These are the memories of history: these are the 'new homes', and those that originally named the road, the alley, are now ancient. The fundamental impetus that determined the development was the construction of the tramway that connects San Lorenzo to Greve to Florence. In the district of San Lorenzo in Greve you can find many types of housing: from the ancient village and small shops to the large shopping center, from small terraced houses to large residential buildings. The dualism between ancient and modern has in common the fact that we are talking about an area that has maintained over time its vocation to be a place of passage. Ideal for couples or families, or for smart workers, the neighborhood offers everything you could need during your stay. A stone's throw away you will find: bank, pharmacy, bars, pastry shops, ice cream parlors, pizzerias, typical and ethnic restaurants, supermarkets, hairdresser, laundry, bus stop.
