In epoca romana Peschiera divenne un importante centro: vi è la testimonianza di Plinio il Vecchio e del nome Peschiera. Per facilitare i collegamenti, oltre alla naturale direttrice del lago e del Mincio che permetteva una rapida comunicazione fino alla città di Mantova in età romana fu realizzato, la cosiddetta via Gallica che collegava Bergamo e Brescia a Verona, toccando appunto il nodo di Peschiera del Garda.

In order to facilitate connections, in addition to the natural route of the lake and the Mincio River that allowed rapid communication to the city of Mantua in the Roman era was built, the so-called Gallic Way that connected Bergamo and Brescia to Verona, touching precisely the junction of Peschiera del Garda.
