Its population density is 22.9 inhabitants/km². It was the headquarters of a parish extinct in 2013, as part of a national administrative reform, to, together with Mata da Rainha, form a new parish called Union of the Parishes of Vale de Prazeres and Mata da Rainha of which is the headquarters.
