This Palace was built in the 17th century. XVI, during the reign of D. João III, and served as General headquarters for Generals Solano and Kellerman when in 1807 Spanish and French troops occupied this area, in the so-called French Invasion.
However, in the middle of the same year 1807, when Setúbal was recovered from foreign invaders, General José Lopes de Sousa, at the head of the national and restorative troops, also reestablished his General headquarters in this Palace.
In 1850 it was inhabited by Carlos de Almeida Carvalho, while he was researching the ruins of Troia, as a Member of the Lusitanian Archaeological Society.
