Overview

We present a two bedroom apartment in downtown Lisbon. Located on the fifth floor, this apartment offers a spacious entrance hall, a large living room, two bedrooms, a kitchen and a full bathroom. Although it does not have a lift, the apartment is located in one of the most emblematic streets of downtown Lisbon. Baixa Pombalina is one of the most touristic areas of the city, full of monuments and points of interest such as Rossio, Rua Augusta, Praça do Comércio and the Elevador de Santa Justa. Lisbon continues to be a highly sought after region, therefore by investors and tourists, as well as by families who wish to live in this vibrant environment. After the devastating earthquake of 1755, the Marquis of Pombal, prime minister of King D. José I, led the reconstruction of the city, resulting in the Baixa de Lisboa, also known as Baixa Pombalina. The area covers approximately 255 hectares, extending from the Terreiro do Paço near the Tagus River to the Marquês de Pombal Square, up the Avenida da Liberdade and covering the entire current parish of Santa Maria Maior. Characterized by straight and perpendicular streets with Rua Augusta as the central axis, Baixa de Lisboa is dominated by the Pombaline style, which replaces the medieval urban fabric with a plan of wide streets and paving, designed by Manuel da Maia, Eugénio dos Santos and Carlos Mardel. The buildings present the striking architectural resemblance, with the ground floor intended for commercial establishments and the upper floors facing housing. The monumentality of the buildings reflects a new social order, which values the merchant and financial class. As the most central and commercial district of the city, Baixa de Lisboa offers a variety of entertainment options, from cultural to gastronomic options and places of conviviality. The streets here are famous, with facades lined with beautiful tiles that continue to delight us. We will go down the avenue to Rio and, next to Rossio we will find the impressive Praça da Figueira. In Praça da Figueira, in the heart of downtown Lisbon, it impresses with its classic buildings and the statue of João I. Sharing with Rossio the old Hospital of All Saints, this square housed the main market of the city after the earthquake that shook the region. Although the market was demolished, for a long time it supplied Lisbon with fresh meats and vegetables. Over time, the buildings around the square were converted into hotels, shops and cafes, making it an important commercial center in this typical Lisbon square. Here, we find a large concentration of shops, including renowned international brands, as well as numerous pastry shops, restaurants and cafes.
