Marvila is a Portuguese parish in the municipality of Lisbon, belonging to the Eastern Zone of the capital, with an area of 7.12 km² and 35,479 inhabitants (2021 census). Its population density is 4,983 inhabitants/km². The site of Marvila, as old as the foundation of the nationality, is one of the most typical neighbourhoods in the eastern part of the city of Lisbon. Until the nineteenth century, there was a succession of pleasant farms in this vast area of Lisbon and the fertility of the lands bathed by the Tagus was great. Until recently, it was an essentially rural parish, where farms and vegetable gardens proliferated. Even today, the examples are easy to detect: Quinta dos Ourives, Rosa, Flores, Amendoeiras, Leal, Marquês de Abrantes... These properties were mostly exploited by people from the north of the country and supplied the street markets, spread throughout the neighbourhood, the neighbourhood and, later, throughout the Capital.
