Marvila is a Portuguese parish in the municipality of Lisbon, belonging to the Eastern Zone of the capital, with 7.12 km² of area and 35,479 inhabitants (2021 census). Its population density is 4,983 inhabitants per km². The site of Marvila, as old as the foundation of nationality, is one of the most typical neighborhoods of the eastern part of the city of Lisbon. Until the nineteenth century, there were pleasant farms in this vast area of Lisbon and the fertility of the lands bathed by the Tagus was great. Until recently, it was an essentially rural parish, where farms and vegetable gardens proliferated. Even today the examples are easy to detect: Quinta dos Ourives, da Rosa, das Flores, das Amendoeiras, Leal, Marquês de Abrantes... These properties were exploited, for the most part, by people from the north of the country and supplied the street markets, scattered throughout the neighborhood, the neighborhood and, later, throughout the Capital. To the old market of Praça da Ribeira, the merchandise arrived transported by wagons.
